Beach Info
Beach Haven Beach is located in Hilders Park near the Beach Haven ferry jetty. It is a small 50m sand and shell Beach, shaded by trees. The water gets to waist-deep 10m from the sand and the bottom is muddy at this point. The 5m of sandy beach remains at high tide so there is plenty of room for beach activities.
A strong tidal current runs just beyond the swimming pontoon due to the proximity to the narrow channel feeding the upper harbour area. Take care if swimming in this area as the current can be strong and ferries operate close to this area. The path to the beach is steep but concrete and well maintained. There is plenty of shade from pohutukawa trees overhanging the beach. This is a great place to launch your Kayak, SUP or small craft with easy access out to the channel and the upper harbour for fishing or exercise. The adjacent reserve has picnic tables, BBQ, a rope swing and playground. Toilets and changing rooms are located in the park at the roadside of the reserve. Be aware that there is limited parking in this area.
