Beach Info
This pleasant pōhutukawa fringed coastal park sits on the edge of the Waitematā Harbour, near Point Chevalier. There is a carpark located at the end of Walker Road or the park can be accessed on foot via the boardwalk from Great North Road.
The park has a large grassed area with picnic tables and seating. A children’s playground and public toilets and changing rooms are not far from the carpark. The Eric Armishaw Coastal Walk can be accessed from the north side of the carpark.
The beach is fronted by wide tidal flats that are exposed at low tide, so swimming is best at high tide. The bay is popular for water sports, such as kite surfing, when the tide and winds are favourable.
There is also a shell bank area that is home to migratory seabirds including Cormorant, Heron, and Godwits. You must keep dogs on-leash, at all times, to protect nesting birds.
The hazards below may be present at any time. Please take care when swimming and if in doubt stay out.
