Beach Info
The lagoon at Karekare changes with each tide and rainfall in the surrounding hills. Often it can contain submerged debris, Murky shallow water, Soft sand and mud. Hot sand on the access track can burn your feet and those of your dog. Take care and wear footwear until you get to the wet sand. The lagoon can be deep in middle and contain submerged rocks of logs. Keep children at arms length as there can be a steep drop from path at high tide in to the lagoon. Typically the lagoon has minimal water flow but it can be strong after rain. Often after rain the water quality in the lagoon is poor so swimming here is not advised.
