Beach Info
Lake Rototoa (previously known as Ototoa) is a large, deep dune lake located in a remote area of the South Kaipara Heads. Lake Rototoa is of high biodiversity value with pristine water quality and recognised as a Significant Ecological Area and an Outstanding Natural Feature. Lake Rototoa is Auckland’s most pristine lake and supports some of the region’s richest freshwater biodiversity. Your help is vital to protect this special place. Please Check, Clean, and Dry all gear before entering the lake to prevent the spread of aquatic pests. This is especially important if you are arriving from the Waikato, where golden clam poses a significant risk to this waterbody.
