Beach Info
Lake Waro is a 4 hectare lake, just a little over 5 metres deep and is located on the northern end of Hikurangi township. It is a popular picnic and swimming spot over the summer months with a swimming platform by the carpark and small diving cliffs along the track that leads around the lake. The small wetlands around the lake provide habitat for a variety of fish and bird species and the local eels can usually be spotted around dusk and dawn close to the shore. The Waro Limestone Scenic Reserve and Hikurangi Skatepark are within walking distance of Lake Waro.
