Beach Info
Ocean Beach is located 28 km southeast of Hastings. It is very popular during the summer months with large crowds forming in front of the main car park. Swimming is common during the summer months, while surfing and fishing continue at the beach all year round. Ocean Beach is safe when there are no waves or when the surf is small but becomes dangerous in surf over one metre. The characteristics of this beach change greatly between high and low tide, especially when large waves are running. Ocean Beach has both a Volunteer Patrol over the summer months and a Professional Lifeguard service during weekdays in the school holidays.
