Beach Info
Okoromai Bay is located on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula within Shakespear Regional Park. There is plenty of car parking and space on the grass reserve for picnics or for the kids to run around. The beach is narrow and steep, fronted by a wide mud flat that is exposed at low tide. Cockle gathering is a popular activity at the site at low tide, while swimming is best done at high tide. Those gathering cockles should check the tides before they go out and ensure they do not get caught far from shore when the tide starts to come in; also check the cockle limits.
Swimmers should ensure they stay within their limits, keep young children within arm's reach, and never swim alone.
