Beach Info
Orakei Basin is a saltwater lake that has formed in a volcanic crater that last erupted 85,000 years ago. It's a great place to go for a walk, with a loop track around the Basin that is 3 km long and takes approximately 45 minutes. The Basin is used for a variety of water-based recreational activities; it is home to the Auckland Water Ski Club and Orakei Sea Scouts. The outlet of water from Orakei Basin into adjacent Hobson Bay is controlled via sluice gates.
