Beach Info
Tauranga Bay is a popular swimming and camping spot with a campground nearby. The stream is located in the sheltered estuary in the eastern corner with a large grass reserve, playground and toilet facilities. There are concerns with the water quality in the stream and caution is advised when swimming here due to increased risk in illness. Tauranga Stream at Tauranga Bay is a sheltered intertidal estuarine beach. Strong currents and sudden changes in water depth are the common hazards, especially near the edge of the tidal channel. The severity of these hazards changes with the rise and fall of the tide and river flow, so swimmers need to be aware of this. Swimmers should also be aware of diving into submerged objects and into shallow water. There is no Lifeguard Service, so all water users should exercise caution when entering the water for any activity.
