Beach Info
Thorne Bay is located north of Takapuna Beach, and can be accessed via a scenic coastal walkway. Thorne Bay is a sandy beach nestled between 200,000 year old lava flows from Lake Pupuke with fantastic views out to Rangitoto Island. At low tide, remnants of an ancient coastal forest can be seen between Takapuna Beach and Thorne Bay. If you're going for a swim, beware of submerged rocks in the nearshore zone, and never dive into the water head first. Parking is very restricted in the streets near Throne Bay.
Always stay within your limits, swim with a friend, and keep young children within arm's reach. Take care when fishing off the rocks and always wear a lifejacket.
