Whangamatā South

Whangamatā South Beach is located around the point of the main surf beach of Whangamatā. Generally more sheltered from the large swells this beach accommodates those wanting a quick dip away from the hustle and bustle. A great playground and bathroom facilities are available just off the beach at the Island View reserve. Swimmers are advised to stay away from the rocks at the southernmost end and take care near the estuary where outgoing tides can cause strong tidal flows. This beach is patrolled by Lifeguards on weekdays throughout the peak weeks of summer. If you’re unsure about the conditions the safest option is to walk or drive around to the flagged area in front of the Surf Club on Whangamatā Main Beach.
